Michael McCarthy's work ranges from traditional, straight black and white to color, pinhole and historical photo processes (cyanotype, gum bichromate, van dyke brown, salt prints, etc.) using cameras as diverse as plastic toy cameras (Diana camera, Holga camera), stereo, pinhole, 35 mm, medium and large format photographing cityscapes and landscapes, architecture, portraits, nudes, travel images and other hard to categorize images. Michael also works in printmaking (etching (especially xerox transfers of photo imagery), collographs, lithographs (frequently with photo lithography), screen printing (also typically photo-based) and takes commercial commissions using digital applications for the web, multimedia and print.

Michael's travel photography includes images from around the world (including New York, Paris, London, Rome, Florence, Tuscany, Milan, Barcelona, Madrid, Geneva, Prague, Athens, the Cyclades Islands, Greece, Macedonia,Turkey, India, Thailand, Scotland, Ireland, England, France, Mexico and the United States).

Michael McCarthy has been actively involved in the art world in numerous capacities for more than twenty years. Fine artist in photography and printmaking, commercial artist in photo as well as graphic and web design, Michael also has considerable gallery management and teaching experience.
